Windows Shopping?

Windows 2000 is the successor to Windows NT 4.0. But for businesses big and small, Microsoft claims it's also the strategic successor to Windows 95 and 98 ("Windows 9x"). And we concur.

JRVsystems tested Windows 2000 for months, and we are deploying it for clients. We have found it much more stable than Windows 95, 98, and NT 4.0. Seldom do we restart a Windows 2000 machine after a crash. Stability raises productivity: Less work is lost since other programs are usually unaffected by one program's failure, and you don't have to pay people to watch their PCs restart. We also see much less "flakiness" that cost you extra clicks to work around.

We estimate payback occurs in 3-6 months for typical workstations now running Windows 9x.

"Look and feel" is nearly identical to Windows 9x, so most won't need to learn anything new. Notebooks thrive with Windows 2000, unlike NT 4.0. And Windows 2000 supports many more products than NT 4.0…though it's still more finicky than Windows 9x.

Regardless, it's the future. Microsoft has decreed that Windows 98, and its successor, Windows Me, are for home PCs, and will be phased out of even that use.

JRVsystems recommends that you buy PCs with Windows 2000, unless you have unusual software that does not support it. Windows 2000 clients work smoothly with your existing network. Upgrade existing PCs where feasible, but if a machine requires excessive upgrades to use Windows 2000, schedule it for replacement instead. Also upgrade servers (with careful planning), because once your system is 100% Windows 2000, new administrative benefits of Windows 2000 become available.

No-Brainer: Windows 2000 is more stable, which translates directly to increased profitability, and offers a path to the future. Your business should migrate to this more profitable technology. Contact JRVsystems to take advantage of our Windows 2000 expertise.
